Our client is an international technology-driven company with an established presence in China. The business provides advanced electronics, embedded, drive technology, and engineering-related solutions for industrial applications, backed by strong engineering capabilities, high quality standards, and a long-term commitment to operational excellence. The company is looking for a senior leader who can guide the next stage of growth in China while helping move the business from a more traditional E²MS service and trading model toward a stronger technology-led solutions position in the market.
Role Overview
As General Manager China, you will lead the overall China organization and take full responsibility for business performance, market growth, and organizational development. This is a senior leadership role with full P&L accountability and a clear focus on transformation, customer growth, and local team building. The position will play a central role in shaping and carrying out the China strategy, strengthening the company’s position as a solutions partner, and building closer alignment with Group Management in Germany. Based in Shanghai, the role covers leadership across business, technology, operations, and commercial development in China.
Your Responsibilities
- Strategy and transformation: Develop and carry out the China strategy, position the company as a technology and solutions partner, and help move the business beyond classical EMS models toward stronger engineering and solution-based offerings.
- Sales and market development: Build and lead a technically strong sales team, win new customers, and strengthen market presence across segments such as MedTech, Robotics / Automation, and Industrial OEM. Introduce more structured solution selling, key account management, and business development practices.
- Technology and portfolio development: Support the expansion of the offering from components to systems, and from manufacturing toward engineering-led solutions, including customer-specific work related to Embedded, Electronics, and Drive Technology. Strengthen collaboration between China and Germany across development and technology activities.
- Operations and quality management: Support strong quality standards, delivery capability, and scalable operations, while also helping strengthen the local supplier base in Shenzhen. Oversee business divisions across E²MS, Drives, Embedded, and Sourcing / Trading.
- Organization and leadership: Take overall responsibility for around 100 employees in China, lead business performance with full P&L ownership, develop key talent, strengthen organizational capability, and introduce stronger performance management and target-setting systems. Act as the key interface to Group Management in Germany.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 10 to 15+ years of experience in electronics, E²MS, embedded, mechatronics, or drive technology.
- Several years of experience as a General Manager, Business Unit Head, or Sales Director in China.
- Deep understanding of the China market, with a strong track record in business development and customer relationship building.
- Strong technical understanding of embedded systems, electronics development, and the manufacturing of electronic assemblies.
- Industry experience in medical technology, industrial automation, robotics, high-end electronics, or OEM-related business. Experience in driving systems and mechatronics would be valuable.
- Fluent Mandarin and English communication skills. German language skills would be an advantage.
- A leadership profile that combines commercial strength, technical depth, growth orientation, and experience working across international and China market environments. Experience with German or European companies would also be helpful.
